FCC Amateur Radio License Exam Session

Location: Greene Township Municipal Building, 9333 Tate Rd, Erie, PA 16509

Time: Third Saturday of every month. Registration starts at 8:30 AM. Exam starts at 9:00 AM sharp.

Requirements prior to registration: A valid FRN (FCC Registration Number) is required for each examinee prior to registration. Follow this link to obtain one directly from the FCC. Bring your FRN with you to the exam session.

Cost: Examination administration cost is $15.00 (American Radio Relay League (ARRL) examination fee) in cash paid at the time of registration. The FCC license fee ($35) is separate and paid directly to the FCC by using the CORES FRN Registration system. The FCC fee applies to new, renewal, rule waiver and modification applications that request a vanity call. When the FCC receives the examination information from the Volunteer Examiner Coordinator (ARRL VEC), it will email a link with payment instructions to each successful candidate who will then have 10 calendar days from the date of the email to pay. After the fee is paid and the FCC has processed an application, examinees will receive a second email from the FCC with a link to their official license. Here is a link to the FCC CORESLogin.

American Radio Relay League (ARRL) Youth Grant Program: The ARRL will cover the one-time $35 FCC application fee for new license candidates younger than 18-years old for tests administered under the ARRL Volunteer Examiner Coordinator (ARRL VEC) program. (Note: Wattsburg Wireless Association administers license exams under this program.) Follow this link for more information at the ARRL website. Additionally, for candidates under 18-years old, the examinee will pay a reduced fee of $5 to the Volunteer Examiner (VE) team when taking the exam. Proper identification must be presented and verified by the team.

Preparation: Refer to the Classes and Links tabs in the website.
